Assembling & Positioning Rail

Your rail is supplied cut to fit the length specified in the measurements provided by you. You can confirm this by measuring along the bottom of the rail. The bevel at the bottom end does not count as part of the rail length, and there will be additional rail added to accommodate the 'overhang' required at the top of the stairs.

Joining Rail Sections

Your rail is supplied in two pieces, for ease of shipping and to ease access into the stairway. The first task is to join these together.

The bottom section is the piece with the beveled end. It comes prewired and fitted with the lower charge point and bottom stopping limit ramp.

The top section comes prewired and fitted with the upper charge point and top stopping limit ramp. You will notice that both ends of the upper rail section are cut the same.

Make sure that you have enough room to manoeuvre the track and you will have sufficient access to the stairway. Bring the two 'inside' ends (the ends opposite where the charge points and limit stops are) of the rails together, lining up the guide tubes and the overlapping piece of racking.

The upper rail is wired with 2 'male' bullet connectors, the lower with 2 'female'. Join the wires with the colors blue to blue, and brown to brown.

WARNING! Make sure that you do not trap the cable that runs down through the center of the rail.

Slide out the joint bar, which is the 1" square section located inside the central column x 10mm spanners tighten the pinch bolts for the bar on the section of rail the bar was originally in, to lock the bar in position.

Push the two sections of rail together, taking care to get a close fit, and making sure that the wires do not get trapped in the join.

Where the rail sections join together, we have to ensure that the toothed rack the stair lift runs on is in perfect alignment, to ensure a smooth run. Lay the short section of rack from the fitting kit upside down over the join of the rack. Make sure that there is a perfect alignment of the teeth. Tighten the pinch bolts securing the joint bar on the other half of the track. Now remove the small rack section and fix the overhanging rack down through the pre-drilled hole into the aluminum rail.

Your track is now assembled. Carefully lift and carry the track onto the stairway. Lay the rail onto the stairs on the side the stair lift is to be fitted, toothed track uppermost, with the beveled end at the bottom.

Now fit the stair brackets from the fitting kit. You are supplied with 4, one attaches above the bottom step, one on the top step (not the landing) and the others on the steps either side of the joint in the rail. The stair brackets clamp to the underside of the rail and can be adjusted in angle so the bottom plate is flat on the stair tread. They are secured by tightening the long 13mm nut/bolt, which runs right through each bracket. Do not screw the brackets to the stair treads yet, this is done at a later stage.
